Pilgrimages in Christianity usually involve visiting famous churches, observing fasts and celebration throughout. Christianity came to India in the form of St.Thomas in AD 52. He spent around 12 years in India and spread the teachings of Christ. Many Churches and shrines have been built in the places he was linked with. Christianity developed and more churches were built after the arrival of Europeans in the 15th century. The churches constructed at this time are among the best architectural splendors of India.

With the arrival of Christian missionaries, Christianity developed and spread and more Indians converted to Christianity. More Churches were constructed and were associated with people like Sister Alphonsa and with Mother Mary. Considered sacred these churches are now place of pilgrimages where fasts are observed and festivals celebrated.
