The Islamic religion was brought to India in 1000 A.D by the Afghanistan invaders. One of the most popular and widely followed religions, Islam was founded by Prophet Muhammad in Arabia, about 1,400 years back. With the advent of Mughal rule, Islam flourished in India. The sacred places in India are the Masjids or Mosques and tombs of the Islamic Prophets and Saints. The Jumma Masjid in Delhi is the largest mosque in India and was built by the Emperor Shah Jahan. The relics of the Prophet, his sandals and his footprints are considered sacred.

Likewise the tombs of the Islamic Saints are considered as Holy places. The tomb of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moin-ud-din Hasan Chishti is considered very sacred and his death anniversary is celebrated with people from far and wide coming and offering prayers.
