The regal Shiv Niwas Palace was built in the late 19 th century by the legendary Maharana Fateh Singh. The Palace is located at one end of the City Palace. It served as a guest house for several decades and then lay in neglect until it's complete restoration and renovation by renowned interior designer, Elizabeth Kerker, at the request of Maharana Bhagwat Singh. The designer found innumerable treasures in the royal godowns. These included beautiful European and Persian carpets, glittering chandeliers, shining brass bedsteads, priceless Chinese lamp-shades and exquisitely crafted inlaid furniture. Shiv Niwas is now an internationally famous hotel.
