Maya Devi is one of the Shaktipeeths in India. This ancient temple of Maya Devi is also the Adhisthatri deity of Haridwar. According to a legend, the heart and navel of Sati (Lord Shiva's wife), who sacrificed her life to defend the honour of her husband, had fallen at this place while Lord Shiva was carrying her burnt body.
